However, if you are living overseas and you have close ties (either family or genuine job offer) in Canberra; OR you have completed a PhD at an ACT university, you can still apply for ACT 190 nomination if you meet the criteria. 

If you have already submitted an application and paid the service fee before 23 August 2017, the application will be processed in queue order.

PhD graduates streamlined ACT nomination update

The ACT Government will begin accepting applications for streamlined nomination of PhD graduates from Canberra institutions from 1 November 2016. Subject to meeting Australian Government requirements, international students awarded a PhD by an ACT university can apply for fast tracked nomination to live and work in Canberra through the State/Territory nominated (subclass 190) visa.

Canberra residents who have been living in Canberra for at least 12 months can apply for streamlined ACT nomination if you have been awarded a PhD by an ACT university. There is no criteria relating to when your PhD was awarded by an ACT university providing that you meet the Canberra residency requirement.

Applicants from other parts of Australia and from overseas can apply for streamlined ACT nomination if your PhD was awarded by an ACT university no more than two years before you apply.

Applicants will benefit from a simplified application process with minimal supporting documentation and will not pay the ACT Government service fee ($300 at date of publication).
